Knowledge of medication is a crucial part in the success and treatment of children and adolescents who are prescribed certain regimens for behavioral health.

Understanding the reason for prescribing, the side effects, the expected response, and the time it takes to achieve the effects of the medication are all very important. Medication Education is important for both the guardian of the medicated individual, as well as for the individual themselves.  The physician prescribing the medication relies on the report given by the patient and the guardian in order to make an accurate assessment and decision in regard to the most effective medication regimen. You are just as important in the treatment as the counselor, doctor, and nurses who are involved in the process.

This is why Reality Check Services provides medication education to youth, parents, organizations, and institutions.  Our service enables guardians to make educated decisions about their child’s treatment.  Our goal is to present the material in a clear and “easy-to-understand” format.  We will discuss the different classifications of medications and the specific medication in each class.  Included in the education will be similarities and differences between the medications and the pharmacokinetics and dynamics of the medications-meaning the side effects and expected benefits. Having a general knowledge of how medications work and their effects on the body will provide a solid foundation for being an informed participant in your child’s, your own, or your clients’ treatment.

All material is based on research, which means it is evidence-based. Reality Check Services does not prescribe medications.  However, we do provide objective information about medications commonly prescribed to children and adolescents to treat emotional and behavior difficulties.

As the information is presented, participant questions will be the backbone of the interaction.
